Vocabulary is a body of words used in a particular language. While studying vocabulary, students need to know the meaning, use, word grammar, interaction, spelling and pronunciation of the word. There are three techniques used for teaching vocabulary. They include; engage, study, activate. Engage can be used to motivate the students and to explain the meaning. Study activities include; gap-fill, word searches, crosswords, matching exercise etc. The activate stage may include; debate, story building, discussion, role play and simulation. Typical ESA vocabulary lesson include the straight arrow structure that engage, study then activate. Typical ESA grammar lesson include the patchwork grammar lesson for mid level students with learning objective. The boomerang lesson is use for the ESA typical function lesson. I've learnt that teaching vocabulary is important because the more words your students know, the better they can express themselves and the more they can understand.
