This unit gave me a broad overview of methods and techniques employed in teaching languages, including grammar-translation, audio-lingualism, the lexical approach, and several others. I learned about what constitutes the engage, study, and activate components of the ESA methodology of teaching. The engage phase focuses on arousing student interest; the study phase focuses on language construction; and the activate phase involves students freely applying any and all language they know. Generally, as long as an ESA lesson begins with an engage phase and ends with an activate phase, the sequence between those can vary. This unit introduced three kinds of ESA lessons: \"straight arrow\" (ESA), \"boomerang\" (EASA), and \"patchwork\" (E...A) ESA lessons. This unit emphasized that positivity and clarity are important when providing feedback and corrections. Also, I gained insight into effective correction strategies, including avoiding interrupting a student's speech to correct.
