In our teaching career we encounter different types of students. First of all we can grade them by levels. Teaching beginners we should put stronger students with weaker ones, be sensitive to students, praise and encourage a lot, explain our methods. We should not rush, have a book open all the time and overcorrect. Teaching individual students we can use short stories, articles from newspapers, horoscopes, idioms, personal history, photos. Teaching kids we must always use English as the language of instructions. Usage of their native language removes the motivation. The teacher should speak slowly, clearly, in short and direct sentences; he should act everything out, be ready to make fun of himself. Kids love adults behaving in a silly way. Teaching “Business English†we aren’t obligated to be an expert in the student’s field. Usually they know all the vocabulary connected to their field, but can’t make a simple sentence talking about daily routine.
