This unit provided a thorough overview of two main concepts: conditionals and reported speech. Both of these ideas are familiar to me in English, but as a native speaker, I have had little exposure to the rules that govern these two areas of the language, so seeing it in writing was very helpful. There are five main conditionals: zero, first, second, third, and mixed. These conditionals express possibility and start with \"if\" or sometimes, \"when.\" This unit offered many interesting teaching ideas for helping students to practice using conditionals, including quite unconventional activities like the Nuclear Bunker Role Play. The descriptions of reported speech and direct speech also illuminated the nuanced rules that guide how we retell direct speech as reported speech. In this translation, both the tenses will change, as will time expressions. The clear tables and graphics (particularly the illustration associated with time expressions on page 7) were very useful to see.
