This unit overview the method of teaching known as ESA. This is great for new teachers and the layout of ESA is engage, study, activate. The first stage attempts to arouse the students interest with activities, games, and stories. The study stage begins with elicitation next is usually drilling exercises for pronunciation and ends with worksheets. The activate stage is where students use all of the information they know and could involve role plays, story writing, and dialogue. The order that one does these three stages can vary. The straight line method is probably the most simple and effective especially for relatively easy concepts; however, when different topics/lessons are involved one can vary the delivery with boomerang and patchwork methods. Using correction is tricky skill because one can’t do too much correction or too little. Teacher should encourage student to student correction and self correction and only do teacher correction as a last resort.
