This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The unit covers the following phonology areas: intonation, stress, phonetic alphabet/symbols, articulation and how to teach these areas mentioned. The intonation section covers how the volume and pitch can change a whole sentence. The stress section covers how individual words can be stressed to change the emphasis in the sentence and how to where to put the stress in words. The phonetic alphabet/ symbols section shows how the spelling of words and pronunciation often differs. The articulation section discusses the different places and manner of articulation. From this unit, I have learnt the importance of pronunciation and well as the techniques to indicate intonation and stress. I am also about to identify the meanings of intonation patterns and stressed syllables in sentences. Furthermore, I understand the importance of the pneumonic alphabet and I am able to transcribe phonemic texts. Each section gives techniques of each section where I can incorporate them in the lesson.
