This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Trouble shooting is something that a teacher deals with daily. Whether it is a new group of students or an existing group of students. Problem solving and thinking on the fly is one of the many skills teachers need to succeed. When teaching EAL students it is important to understand their language proficiency. That should be done on the first day, as well as some warm up activities, and setting a positive classroom environment. Students will be at different levels of learning so creating differentiation within assignments as well as assessments is vital for student success. This may include giving alternate assignments, giving certain students easier or harder tasks, providing open ended questions to provoke a higher order of thinking. This chapter also included ideas of dealing with a large class, helping students who have trouble listening, and use of the native language within the classroom setting. All were very helpful, and I am glad they were included in the final chapter!
