This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 10, based on two scenarios of a lesson focused on modal auxiliary verbs, showed a huge importance of the attitude brought in by a teacher, and how it reverberates throughout the group and the class.
In the first example lesson the teacher is intimidating and strict, and very inflexible in his approach, even though it becomes clear early on that the students do not understand the subject of the lesson. The group is unwilling to participate out of fear of making a mistake, as they are being told repeatedly how \"easy\" the material and the tasks are.
The second example lesson shows the benefits of an energetic, positive attitude in engaging the group and putting the students at ease. It clearly displays how utilising body language - smile, miming and gestures - can effectively help to convey the meaning of the lesson subject and to guide the group towards the desired answers. Knowing the names of your students, and engaging the whole class make everyone participate equally.
