There are many different types of special groups that might need to learn English for any number of reasons. In Japan all students, elementary through high school, are required to take English classes. Many Japanese then must learn higher levels of English for their jobs, for instance Japanese businessmen and women and hospitality and tourism workers. The Japan Self-Defense Forces often have their members learn English to help them better communicate with their English speaking allies, in particular the US military, but also the Australians and the Singaporeans. The British, Indians and South Africans also participate in a lot of multinational military exercises and operations and their partners from non-English speaking nations would need to communicate with them as well. The cultural differences between different groups, like Latin Americans, Europeans, Africans and Central and East Asians can greatly affect class room dynamics and students needs when it comes to learning.
