Unit 20 focuses on common problem situations. The first problem that is encountered is the first lesson. From my experience, planning the first lesson or demo lesson was one of the more challenging aspects of teaching. I can see why the first lesson is considered a \"problem\". The portion covering the first lesson touches on the difference of new groups vs existing group and what should be done in the first lesson including suggestions for warmers to start lessons. The next problem mentioned is mixed classes such as different levels, different languages and different ages. It touches on how to handle these difficult classes. Finally it covers problems with students themselves such as reluctant students and students with minimum listening skills. These problems were a broad range of issues that might arise when teaching English, but this Unit helps to bring these issues to the forefront of the mind and helps when it comes to planning lessons and preparing for problems that arise.
