This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 3 looked at syllabus creation and course creation. First and foremost we need to find out what our students need or want. I found out in this chapter there are various assessments that can be taken to do this. Such as a level test, then a needs analysis. Even before the course has started the students can be given a diagnostic test to assess their skills and knowledge in particular areas, then part way through the course they can undergo a progress test to check their progress in class in certain areas. Planning the syllabus design was clearly explained in the unit, starting with the finding their level in the Level test, then doing the Needs Analysis, then to breaking down their needs into specific areas. I found it particularly useful how the course allocated the time slots from beginning to end, allowing time to conduct the initial testing, and explaining, and the end student assessment, plus also allowing time for flexibility.
Overall it was a very helpful unit indeed.
