This unit focused on course books and lesson materials and how they can be used. In my current job, the textbooks are selected by the school so I am unable to select the main course material or create a syllabus. My school usually restricts me to mostly using the textbooks in my class, sometimes making it difficult to create variety and interest in the lessons. Reading about how to use course books in this unit gave me some insight on how to better use the textbooks assigned to me for my classes, especially the point about approaching it critically. Many of the topics in the textbooks I have to use are one sided and have general assumptions. By making a critical approach to these topics, I would like raise questions about the chapter that contradicts what the author is saying about the topic, in order to get my students to think more critically and give them chances to use their language skills in other ways. This is something that I would like to try with my advanced classes.
