This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit presented a clear overview of the various types and levels of English learners, as well as a guide to various ways of teaching and learning. It was interesting to learn about the different methods in which a teacher can be involved in a lesson and I was able to recognize which ones I actively do or don't do in class, and the manner in which I tend to fill each of those roles.
The breakdown of the different learner age groups was also interesting to me as I was able to reflect on my own experiences teaching those groups and how their attention span and willingness to participate is influenced by their age and cultural background.
Much of the information included in this unit were things I have learned about or encountered in my time as an Assistant Language Teacher and as a language student. However, the Common European Framework was completely new to me and I am therefore glad that I now better understand how the levels of learners are classified by the Council of Europe.
