This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 7 discusses introducing students to new vocabulary, grammar, and functions. Appropriate lesson activities for the engage, activate, and study phases are discussed for each lesson type. In addition, example lesson plans are given, including a straight arrow ESA vocabulary lesson for new students, a patchwork ESA grammar lesson for mid-level students, and a boomerang ESA function lesson for mid to high-level students. This unit was very helpful to me, since I did not realize that (especially for older students) grammar is considered the foundation of language learning, with functions and vocabulary being the branches. I enjoyed the tasks at the end of the unit where I had to design lesson plans using various ESA lesson styles. I found these tasks to be challenging and helpful. I also found the discussion of various issues students may face (similarity of new vocab to a word in their own language, pronunciation, etc.), to be helpful since I had not considered these problems before.
