Lesson plans are the organizational backbone that ensure that the teacher and learners are progressing in their abilities in a clear and effective manner. While the lesson plans and the attached lesson plan sheets are centered around the language point of interest that functions as the goal of the lesson, the objectives, aids, aims, anticipated problems, and procedure provide a roadmap for how to arrive at the language point successfully. Furthermore, the lesson plan allows for the Engage-Study-Activate structure to be put to its full use, as seen in the example of ‘consolidating animal vocab from a previous lesson to bring out new grammar.’ A wide variety of tactics and strategies can be used in a single teaching lesson using this framework, and variation is key for keeping student interest and inciting learning. This unit in particular demonstrated to me how to implement the ESA framework for an entire lesson and how it could be used to time through an entire class period.
