The reason the students are learning English in the first place is very important to know when coming into the class. Understanding how much they know already and is also very crucial to the course. It can be difficult teaching business English because the students are already working a full-time job and are usually exhausted and drained. Adults also do not retain information like young students do. A teacher should not be speaking their native language to the class because the point is for the students to hear a well spoken English speaker often. A teacher should move around the class especially during group exercises to make sure everyone is practicing the English and not speaking all of it in their native voice. A fraction of the session may be spoken in their native voice to speed up the process of the exercise and it is still effective if they are all talking amongst each other getting comfortable in the classroom.
