Personally, I found this to be the most challenging unit of work to date. On the other hand, I found it quite fascinating and felt motivated to study carefully and revise a few times.
I enjoyed reading and practising with the information about the mechanics of speech. Speech is remarkable.
Students can use all of their senses in studying pronunciation and phonology...they can use visuals (diagrams, demonstrations), use particular parts of their mouth and throat, use their hearing (modeled speech, tapes, music etc), use touch (checking vibration etc) and intuition (sensing correct speech after immersing themselves in English).
I think you could have a lot of fun with speech games and tasks.
The video demonstration was excellent and I will watch this quite a few times. The teacher gave a really interesting lesson introducing the phonemic alphabet. Knowing the phonemic alphabet may empower students wishing to do a lot of individual practise and homework outside of their language lessons.
