This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I learned from this unit the uses for auxiliary verbs to express formality. I found the degree of certainties interesting, especially as is defined for may and might having different meanings that do matter. I have a greater understanding as to the weight of these auxiliary verbs and that they are not so easily interchangeable as I previously believed them to be. I also was enlightened by the relative clauses, and what an enormous difference commas make in a defining or non-defining sentence. It is silly to admit such a thing, but I felt as if a light bulb went on inside my head, and I understood why commas change the entire content of a statement. I realized that what I read silently in my head was not correct compared to when I read out loud and made a proper pause, and then repeated the sentence without the content in a non-defining clause. I admit that I thought commas were simply pauses, and under these conditions, I truly understand that serve a mich more significant purpose.
