Learning about Receptive Skills in this lesson focused on two out of the four skills total: Reading and Listening. Besides the reason of why we read or listen i.e. for a purpose or pleasure we also learn about what is helpful to aid students boost their reading and listening skills. This can be anywhere from focusing your topics on a wide variety so as to keep the interests of students to choosing appropriate tasks that will fit the lesson plan and the students you are teaching. This unit is interesting to me, because although it is a short unit, it helps you think and focus on what is important when it comes to the types of receptive skills students will have and how they may react to the lesson plan you give. It just adds another layer of depth to your lesson plan; it is not just a simple thing of choosing which format you'll use, but to really think about what it is (topic) you are trying to teach and how effective it will be with your students (depending on age, size of class, etc.)
