Unit 4 explores materials, both authentic and non-authentic, that can aid the teaching process. It lists advantages and disadvantages of both and shows what needs to be considered when designing and using materials for the classroom.
In the next section I was reminded of why and how to create a lesson plan and how best to use it. Next the advantages and disadvantages of course books were outlined and suggestions were given for how to use them effectively. Some practical notes on the use of the internet followed.
The part on classroom management made me realize that any teaching style should be flexible and that a teacher has to adapt to given situations. A very useful list of tools that can help maintain order in the classroom was then given, followed by ten things to avoid.
If I had to retain just one sentence from this unit, it would be: «Students will respond to your demeanor; how you present yourself is the single most important factor to maintaining order in the classroom.â€
