While I understood the abstract concepts discussed in this unit prior to study (e.g. the characteristics of good teachers and good learners,) I found the categories and roles outlined to be helpful frameworks.
My prior experience in teaching and tutoring has given me a basic understanding about the importance of being an enthusiastic and understanding instructor that helps to instill motivation in my students built on personalized attention. However I was lacking the vocabulary to assess both my role in the classroom, as well as assess my students' language level. In the future, while designing lesson plans, I can not only be cognizant of a variety of activities; but also the subsequent variations in my role as an instructor in said activities. Similarly, I have now gained more universally accepted vernacular to communicate with my students about their current level of proficiency. I hope this will also be helpful in helping to motivated my students objective markers of their progress.
