This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit, I learned that the role of the teacher must be highly flexible. It attitude (silly, to an extent, or professional) greatly depends on whether or not I will be teaching young, beginning learners or adults from different life experiences and encounters with the English language. In both cases, I noticed the pattern of not rushing through material and making sure that students have a strong grasp of the covered material before moving on. If I move too fast through course material, I worry my students will feel like they haven't retained anything, therefore, they will feel like they haven't learned anything. The same is true is for a tired business person who feels overwhelmed. It is important to have structure in individual lessons. I can imagine a scenario where a student shows up and tries to absorb knowledge from me through conversation, but as the teacher, I will need to guide the conversation and have certain learning objectives for the lesson just as I would for any class.
