This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit provided a concise introduction to teachers and learners. There are many characteristics that comprise a good teacher, and this first section begins by deciphering between the qualities relating to one’s personality and then the relationship between an instructor and students. Overall, though, this beginning portion reinforced for me a good teacher is someone who cares more about the learning of students more than his or her instruction. I also learned about the various roles of a teacher, understanding a typical lesson can manifest multiple types of instruction. In discovering information about students, I came to understand differences between adults and young learners, including the motivational, experiential and behavioral age distinctions among students under 18. Finally, I learned the distinctions among the different English language proficiency levels. This unit also relayed the importance for me of acknowledging how different cultures approach learning in unique ways.
