This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
These two videos provided an excellent demonstration of how much choice of tactics and attitude can affect the progression of a lesson. Part of the difference was in the lesson materials and activities themselves. For instance, the teacher using photos, drawings, and gestures to prompt students for vocabulary was much more effective in eliciting vocabulary and building student confidence than simply demanding answers with no context. The second lesson also did a much better job in delivering the language point by beginning with something the students were familiar with, rather than repeating the language point over and over again expecting someone to know it. But there were also differences in demeanor and attitude that also had a major impact: smiling rather than scowling, for instance, or going slow and at the students' own pace instead of calling everything \"easy,\" thus intimidating the students into silence. The attitude of the teacher seems to matter just as much as the materials used.
