This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I like how the 4 skills of a language can be put into these two different categories, it really makes sense to me to view reading and listening as a receptive skill. I have always been told the dangers of just simple \"i read you repeat\" reading exercises and how they don't help students as much as using comprehension checking activities or some of the other reading abilities (predicting, skimming, scanning etc). As a learner of Chinese I can relate to what was being covered here, I know how different a task can be if I myself and actually interested in it. I would really like to give my students a possitive experience when putting receptive language skills into action. I think it all links into each other, the better the rapport the better you understand your students and the better you can prepare materials for them. I love the examples given as well! There are many webites that offer downloadable content for this kind of area but with the examples here I feel i could create my own content.
