This unit identified the multiple types of tests that students can be given throughout their studies to identify several things about the student. Placement tests or diagnostic tests can be given to gauge the students true potential and understand their level of understanding in English at the beginning of a course. To continue to monitor the students' learning, a teacher can give quizzes and tests to estimate the effectiveness of the class and the retention of the material taught.Materials are a teacher's best friend. I use PPTs extensively along with the black board. I have found that color on the black board can make a huge difference. Legibility as well. I have not had any success with DVDs or movie clips. I find them hard to use unless the class is of a higher level. My smaller students tended to shut down and simply go into play mode. However I think if I gave better instructions leading up to a lesson involving a movie clip, I may have better results.
