Unit 7 is about how to teach a new language. It reviews the particulars of teaching vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. When discussing vocabulary this chapter explained what factors a teacher should consider when selecting what vocabulary to teach to the class as well as what a student needs to know about a vocabulary word. As usual recommendations were given on which teaching activities were most useful in the engage, study, and activate phases. The explanations about teaching grammar and language functions (such as inviting, refusing, suggesting, disagreeing, agreeing, etc.)English, nor any language really, is a one dimensional subject to be learned. The language as a whole incorporates for key elements. Speaking and writing for Productive Skills and listening and reading for Receptive Skills. All are equally important for students to be able to more forwards with learning the language. For if they are unable to read the language, they will have a hard time speaking it as well without a frame of reference for alphabet and grammar structure. We as English teachers need to be able to build off our lessons and maintain a balance of these four key skill sets.
