This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
One may be faced with different type of students while teaching English. While having a lesson plan is important, the teacher must understand the student needs and purpose for taking the lessons. The lesson plans will need to be flexible as some student types may require a change on the whole plan. It is important, no matter what level or type the student is, to keep them engaged in the activity and to ensure their needs are included in the lesson. This lesson was a brief overview of our receptive skills--listening and reading. It highlighted different reasons one would listen or read something, such as to gain information or for pleasure. I found the ESA outline to be very helpful and it gave me flashbacks of my high school German class where we would listen to a song in German or read an article about German food and then answer questions about/discuss the topic to gain better understanding.
