This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The unit helped me to understand the wide variety of materials and course books that are available for use in an English language classroom and the difference between authentic materials (things used and prepared for general public use) verses non authentic materials, which have been prepared solely for use in the classroom. Authentic materials are often more engaging for students as it comes from an English speaking country and has a specific purpose for the general public. The unit also gave information on lesson plans and reiterated in more details the requirements needed in a lesson plan; explaining that the document should be thought of as the key tool that can be used by any person to teach your class. A wide range of resources were also given in this unit; focusing on the main resource of course books and the advantages and disadvantages that come along with the use of coursebooks. The unit has also given me great ideas on lesson planning and the important subject of classroom management.
