I found this unit useful as it taught me the different issues that may arise from teaching students how to speak and write in English. How different cultural norms may affect writing, such as writing right to left or up to down, and the differences between fluency and accuracy tasks and how important this can be to lessons structure and understanding of the language. I also learnt how to deal with these differences which may cause issues with learning how to speak and write in English.This was a very important chapter to me because it taught about one on one tutoring and teaching business English, which are two areas I have very little experience with. Although there wasn't a section specifically about adults, it would seem that many of the same strategies of teaching business English apply to adult students in general. Teaching a one on one lesson to a child seemed very daunting to me before, but I'd like to try it after reading some of the ideas from this chapter.
