This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this lesson, I learned about the difficulties and nuances of teaching pronunciation, which a majority of English learners view as the most difficult aspect of learning English. I learned about the importance of intonation and the different types of intonation such as the rise/fall and fall/rise patterns, as well as techniques for teaching intonation, including gestures and nonsense words. I learned some typical patterns for stressing different syllables in English phrases, such as how prepositions, nouns, and articles are generally unstressed. I learned about the ways that sounds are typically joined together in English, and how to use the phonemic alphabet to help English learners pronounce different words correctly. The phonemic alphabet is especially helpful given the prevalence of words in English that are written similarly but are pronounced very differently. Finally, I learned about the places and manners of articulation and techniques for teaching students how to pronounce individual sounds.
