This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I really enjoyed this unit because I am well-aware of the debate that rages regarding course material. I think student-led learning has facilitated an environment in which teachers are forced to be more creative and adaptive to their specific students' needs. Created and Authentic Materials are accordingly finding a larger place in classrooms and I personally, really enjoying finding and making resources that are geared specifically towards my students and the aims and activities that we are spending our time on. Nonetheless, I do feel as though course textbooks still have a place in the classroom. I think it is difficult to be able to universally grade students on your own sometimes-subjective view of their abilities. Furthermore, it is challenging to incorporate enough repetition of new concepts into lessons. I feel course texts repeat and graduate students in a manner that is difficult to reproduce. A combination of authentic/created materials and course texts is thus optimal, as the unit conveyed.
