This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered various aspects of lesson planning. It suggested that while some theorists consider lesson planning to not be a good idea as it creates a more fixed, teacher-centered lesson, it's important for a teacher to be flexible to the needs of the students. It takes a more experienced teacher to be able to let the students have more control over what they do in class. A more inexperienced teacher would feel unprepared. Most teachers fall somewhere in the middle, relying on a prepared plan or outline that also builds in flexability.
Lesson plans serve the following functions: an aid to planning (expectations and goals), a working document (a reference for keeping class on track during the lesson), and a record (what the class has done in class).
Included in the lesson plan, should be: learner objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, anticipated problems, procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, date/time, and teacher's and observer's names.
