This unit was difficult for me, largely because the phonetic script was never taught to me, and I do not use it in my life. Also, I have a difficult time locating some stresses because different people (it seems to me) place stresses in different places. It is clearly important for students to know how to pronounce English words, yet often students can achieve quite a bit of success through listening and reading activities, both in the classroom and for homework (repeatedly over a long period of time). Pop-culture (especially music) can also provide a lot of help with pronunciation.Sentences containing 'if' or 'when' in reference to past, present or future possibilities are known as Conditionals. The 'if' clause contains the condition that has to be met, before the action or state of the main clause can be realized. Direct and reported speech is another tricky topic, involving changes of tense when the information being relayed is being reported. Both these themes need to be dealt with step by step, with each different condition reported being given ample study time. The complex structure of conditionals and the mixing of tenses need plenty of time for practice.
