This unit covered the two major roles in the classroom: teacher and student. In discussing teachers, it talked about what makes a good teacher, and all the different methods teachers may employ in their classroom, such as Facilitators, Moderators, Commanders, and Prompters. In discussing students, this unit focused on the different levels that students learning English may be at, from Beginner to Advanced; it also discussed the different background factors that teachers should take note of when working with students, such as culture, goals, and nervousness. In particular, it identified how these background factors might vary with age. From this section, I have learned about various different techniques that teachers employ in the classroom; while I have had experience as a tutor, I did not have a word to describe roles like \"assessor.\" Going forward, I think keeping these words in mind will help me in the classroom, since I can think about what sort of presence I have in the room quickly and accurately.
