The future tense is a confusing subject for many students but this chapter breaks it down into its essential components. There are a total of 7 possible future tenses. 1) The future simple (I shall/will) deals with future facts, promises, predictions, assumptions, spontaneous decisions, and threats. 2) The future continuous (subject + will + be + verb-ing) talks about something in progress at a particular future moment, prediction of the present, a polite inquiry, or refers to future events. 3) The future perfect (will + have + PP) describes something that will have been done in the future. 4) The future perfect continuous (will + have + been + verb + ing) describes how long something will have continued by a certain time.
There are 3 more forms. The be going + infinitive describes an intent, a prediction based on evidence, or plans. The present simple can be used in a formal situation, a timetable, or for an impersonal tone. The present continuous deals with definite arrangements or no specific time frame.
