The language learning experience has two important sides: the teacher and the learner. A teacher has several roles: the technical aspects of teaching (having and communicating knowledge about the subject, organizing the class structure, managing students to direct them to different tasks, assessing performance/participation, etc.), being a language resource (to answer questions, serve as a model of language usage, and assess/provide feedback on performance), and to motivate the students. The traits of students depend largely on their age, experience level, and cultural level, but the most important qualities to encourage are motivation (making sure they have a goal and interest in the subject matter) and willingness to participate and experiment with new language experiences. Motivations for studying another language can include wanting to go abroad for study, career, travel, or general living; to improve their grades, exam, or job performance; to communicate with others; an interest in language study; etc..
