This unit was so helpful. Having access to a lesson plan has given me clarity of how a lesson might look. I can see how having flexibility in a lesson is essential but I think I would also have to be careful not to go completely off topic. For this reason I can see the validity of identifying a clear learning objective and also reflecting on the lesson afterwards to make sure the objective was achieve, and if not, why?
Planning a sequence of lessons makes sense as you can develop a nice flow to what you are trying to teach and see a longer term outcome for a period of time. However, the unit highlighted the need for constant review. In my experience of working with children this would be very necessary as children often tend to learn some things really quickly and other things take a lot longer to consolidate. It can be difficult to predict what the difficult topics might be, especially for a less experienced teacher or an unfamiliar class, highlighting the need for review of plans and reflecting on a lesson.
