From this unit I have gained a greater understanding of the types of materials which can be used when teaching learners of English and the subsequent advantages and disadvantages of these materials.
This unit was full of ideas and resources for exercises that can be used to teach the class by using activities and discussion points that would be of interest to the class and make the lessons interactive and fun.
From my own previous experience of learning a new language in a classroom environment I can now identify how one of my teachers made excellent use of not just the coursebook but also through supplementary materials, such a authenic materials, magazines and radio stations etc. From this teacher I learnt alot and was always motivated to attend classes. With another teacher who mostly used the coursebook, the class was dull and students were not as motivated.
In conclusion, I believe that it is a combination teacher and the course material and student effort that will determine the success of the student.
