This unit emphasized the vitality of lesson plans and how they can be functional as an experienced & inexperienced educator. As a current middle school teacher, I found this information to be an addition to what I am already required to do in my classroom. Although, it was not a new topic for me it was still a good reminder of how important daily/weekly lesson planning & sequential planning can be in a classroom setting. It is true that lesson plans needs to have flexibility but the lack of plans only allows for chaos, discipline issues and no aimed focus within a curriculum. One thing that I gained from this unit was the use of the example lesson plans. The process it took to think through both the straight-arrow & patchwork style lesson plans was a unique and different way to approach lesson plans. Lastly, I liked the idea that lesson plans need balance and variety. It is so true that both teachers and students need some structure but enjoy the opportunity to try learning things with a different approach.
