There was a great amount of detail to take in during this unit. I would have preferred to have studied the three different grammar points separately. In unit 18, however, I began to see why a learner of English would make particular errors when speaking, especially when dealing with the 'True- Modal' and 'Semi-Modal' auxiliary verbs. The study phase would be necessary and I appreciated the teaching ideas suggested. These activities keep learning authentic and meaningful and I am sure the learner would apply understanding when identifying a list of 'Rules' (for example), in the environment.
A native English speaker myself, it was interesting to find out the reasons behind the usage of such grammar points, for example, when changing from active to passive voice and I enjoyed thinking of real-life scenarios when reflecting on how I would explain the passive voice to a low level student. For example, children who report an incident to a teacher but do not want to ‘name-drop’ due to fear of being bullied.
