This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In Unit 16 Conditionals and Reported Speech, I learned of both categories: Direct Speech / Reported Speech, and of Conditionals. Conditionals are broken in to two different parts, one being the 'If' clause and the other being the Main Clause. There are 5 main conditionals to teach to students, starting from zero conditional and working to third conditional, then skipping four and becoming a mixed conditional. Mixed conditionals are considered a combination between the second and third conditionals. Reported Speech / Direct Speech are two different types of sentences and things heard that will be restated / said by an individual. They often require changing the tenses or simple / perfect / continuous to a different type. There are also irregularities and special instances, and because of such much change it is one of the more difficult topics to explain and have without error. Back-shifting typically happens when these transitions occur, which is essentially pushing back in time / place the content being restated.
