I have learned the different types of tests that I may either give to my students or help them prepare for. The two major types of external tests were created by either the USA or the UK. I may give my students practice tests that resemble external tests that they plan on taking. Some of the most common external tests are TOEFL, IELTS, and the KET, PET, and FCE. While teaching my students it is very important for me to be aware of their language level. When I first meet a student I can have a simple conversation with him to get an idea of his speaking level, but it is also very useful for him to take a written test so that I know his level of reading and grammar comprehension. A placement test will be used when the student first arrives, a progress test will be used to monitor progress and give me feedback as a teacher as to how well the students are remembering my lessons, and a diagnostic test can be used kind of like a placement test to identify exactly which lessons, grammar, and skills need to be focused on.
