This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 16 explains the use and structure of the zero, first, second and third conditionals, as well as the process for turning direct speech to reported speech. For each grammar structure, the unit provides an breakdown of the structure, a list of potential mistakes students typically make, and suggestions of activities to teach it. In my experience, conditionals are, if not the hardest structure for students to grasp, at least one of the hardest. The activities proposed, like the one completing the conditional, are quite effective at getting the students to understand the structure conceptually. They have little trouble understanding the subtle difference between the first and second conditional, for example. The same with reported speech. Conceptually they understand the necessity of changing \"tomorrow\" for \"the following day,\" for example. However, its the structure itself that creates most of the problems. I have struggled to teach these structures, that is why I found the activity ideas particularly helpful.
