This unit covered two broad issues: what defines a good teacher and what defines a good learner. From this unit i’ve learnt about the key characteristics of a teacher, for example, he or she should be patient and kind, willing to listen, able to motivate the students, understand them, their weaknesses and tackle them accordingly. Useful was also the info about the roles of the teacher - Manager, tutor, organizer, assessor, facilitator, participant etc. It is crucial to perform these roles wisely. What defines a good learner? He or she is willing to learn not afraid to ask questions, accepts making mistakes, can contemplate on the learning process. The teacher’s role is to understand the motivations of the learners, and create a welcoming atmosphere for them. As an example, the teacher should be very gentle when working with adults as there is a fear of “ loss of face”, unknown to the young learners. While YL have very short attention span and will appreciate fun games and entertaining activities.
