The past tense includes: The past simple, the past continuous, the past perfect, the past perfect continuous.
The verbs have different forms in the past tense: For the regular verbs, add –ed or –d to the base form of the verb. For the irregular verbs, it depends.
The usage of the past simple: For the past action when the time is given. 2, when time is asked about .3, When the action clearly took place at definite time even though this time is not mentioned. 4 sometimes the time becomes definite as a result of a question and answer in the present perfect.
The usage of past continuous: 1 For interrupted past actions. 2 Used without a time expression, it can indicate development that took place in the past.3 It can express an action, which began before that time and probably continue after it. 4 We use the continuous tense in descriptions.
The usage of past perfect continuous: To talk about longer or situations in the past that had been going on the continuously up to the past moment that we are thinking about
