Depending on what is being sought to be acquired, any one of these tests could be used for assessment.
I think testing and evaluation is definitely a vital part of teaching because students would always want to know how well they are doing and any progress they are making. However, I think teachers should know their students well enough, and be able to choose the testing style wisely in order not to create an environment where students' sole aim will be to pass a test and acquire high scores rather than actually retaining the language and putting it into effective use.
