Finally, we discussed some different issues we may face during our teaching career. The first to be aware of the first lesson we teach to a group. As we do not know the students, and the students may or may not know each other, we will need to set aside the course book and do activities where we get get to know one another better.
Our tactics need to change a bit when we are dealing with large classes. We are not as able to give individual attention to every student. Group and pair work is useful here. Also, we need to make sure in large classrooms that we are speaking loud enough and that our board work is visible.
We need to be gentle yet encouraging with students who are reluctant to participate. Pair work will allow them to practice their English before they perform it in front of the teacher or entire class.
Listening activities may be difficult for some students. We should be aware of what vocabulary we may need to teach beforehand. Also, we should ensure that the tape is being played at a loud enough volume.
