This unit looks at the whole process of designing a business English course. First of all, it explains how to conduct the first meeting with our new students. We learn that in order to find out what is the students’ language level and establish their requirements of the course; we must give them any General English test followed by a needs analysis. The chapter also looks at many different types of language syllabus and gives some tips for creating one. We usually start from removing the time we are not planning to spend on teaching. These include the first lesson, one occasion for final assessment, and it is recommended to leave some spare time for other unplanned activities. It is also very important to assess the students’ knowledge throughout the whole language course. There are many different kinds of tests available for teachers nowadays. Some of them were briefly discussed in the unit. These include: Diagnostic test, Placement test, Aptitude test, Achievement test, Proficiency test, Progress test, etc.
