This unit was focused on testing and evaluating students. There are many forms of testing, and which one will be used depends on which institution you are working for and your personal teaching methods. Placement tests can determine which level ESL class a student is placed in. Diagnostic tests can be used by the teacher to determine each student's progress level. Tests can be given throughout the term to gauge what the students have learned. Practice tests can be given for the external examination your students plan to take (if they are planning to take one). There are many options for external examinations. It is also important that your students evaluate you. This way you can understand your strong and weak points, adjust them, and give your students the best learning experience that you can. In my classroom, I would give a diagnostic test at the start of the term, and progress tests throughout the term. I would make it a point to grade the tests quickly to give quick feedback to my students and show them I care.
